Getting Started Scrub and wash with any dish-washing agent, using a scrubber. Dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth. Apply a layer of edible oil to the cookware and let it absorb the oil for an hour before using it for cooking. If the food turns black, soak the cookware in rice water and repeat the above process. After cooking, clean the cookware with a regular dish-washing agent and scrubber. Dry it with a cloth. Once dried, apply a thin layer of oil before storage to prevent rusting.
